How the RESPIN System Works
Book of Gates stands apart from typical Egyptian slots through its innovative expanding reel architecture. The base game operates with 5 reels and a dynamic row system—each reel displays between 2 and 5 symbols, randomly determined on every spin. This creates between 32 and 3,125 ways to win before any features trigger.
Above the visible reels, three additional rows remain hidden behind ornate golden panels. These aren't decorative—they're locked symbol positions that activate through the RESPIN mechanic. When you land any winning combination, the game awards a RESPIN and unlocks the first hidden row, expanding each reel to display 3-6 symbols. This increases your maximum ways to win to 7,776.
If the first RESPIN produces another win, the second hidden row unlocks (4-7 symbols per reel, up to 16,807 ways). A third consecutive win reveals the final row, creating the maximum 5-8 symbol configuration with 32,768 ways to win. Winning combinations pay left to right on adjacent reels, regardless of symbol size differences between reels. For example, a 2-symbol reel can connect to a 5-symbol reel as long as matching symbols appear in any position. The game calculates all possible paths and awards the highest value per winning combination.
The Free Games bonus operates differently. When triggered by 3 Scatters, all three hidden rows remain permanently unlocked for the entire 10-spin sequence.
